Benefits of Sod
INSTANT GRATIFICATION
Go from bare soil to lush, green lawn in just a few hours. Sod establishes itself quickly. In a couple of weeks, it’s ready for use. It creates the perfect surface for lawn games and family outdoor living.
INSTALL ANYTIME
As long as the yard is prepared, you can install sod anytime during the year. There is no need to wait for the “right” season to put in your lawn.
LESS WATERING
A lawn planted with sod requires less irrigation than a seeded lawn.
THICKER AND HEALTHIER
Sod can be healthier because it is grown professionally. A thicker lawn will also have less weeds.
EROSION CONTROL
Sod immediately prevents the erosion of topsoil on sloped lawns. It also solves other problems such as rain runoff and muddy areas.
Basic Installation
1. MEASURE
Measure square footage of planned lawn for ordering. Have area free of stones and level in advance of purchasing sod and sod underlayment. Installation on the day of delivery is crucial to success.
2. ROLL
Roll area lightly. This will firm and settle the soil surface.
3. WATER
Water the prepared area slightly to moisten base prior to install.
4. INSTALL
Install your lawn immediately upon delivery. Snug edges together tightly; avoid gaps or overlaps; stagger joints in a brick-like fashion. Trim around objects. On slopes, lay sod lengthwise; staple if necessary.
5. ROLL AGAIN
After install, roll entire area to improve contact and remove air pockets. New sod needs time to knit together. Avoid excessive traffic, maintain proper water routine.
6. WATER, WATER, WATER!
Water is of course essential to healthy, development and success. Water deeply and less often to force roots down. Continue for 4-weeks with heavy routine, weaning to standard watering practices. Most beneficial time to water is typically 6:00a.m.-10:00a.m.
7. MOWING
Mow at height of 2.5 inches two weeks after install - (when roots are established). Cut no more than one third of the blade length.
