WHAT IS MILORGANITE EXACTLY?
An all-purpose organic nitrogen fertilizer composed of heat dried microbes that have digested organic matter in wastewater.
IS IT SAFE?
Yes! For both people and pets. It meets the most stringent criteria imposed on fertilizer products for health, safety, and environmental concerns.
HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM SYNTHETIC FERTILIZERS?
Milorganite is “slow food” made from natural, organic matter which feeds plants evenly and gradually. This nurtures the roots of plants which develops into more robust yields (if applicable). Synthetic fertilizers are “fast food” and often force unnecessary top growth making for skinnier plants. They are also manufactured chemically with high burn and leaching potential.
MILORGANITE HAS PHOSPHORUS IN IT. ISN’T THAT BAD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT?
Phosphorus is a necessary part of the fertility program. University studies show that the phosphorus in Milorganite stays in the soil for plants to use, and doesn’t leach into local water sources.
WHAT CAN IT BE USED FOR?
Everything! Lawns, shrubs, trees, flowers, and vegetables (it’s organic!). Also great for new lawns. Nitrogen feeds the seedlings as needed for quick growth.
CAN IT BE USED WITH OTHER FERTILIZERS OR PESTICIDES?
Yes! Just be sure to read labels to avoid over fertilization.
DOES IT KILL WEEDS?
No. Milorganite feeds plants, it doesn’t prevent or kill them.
DOES IT HAVE TO BE WATERED IN?
No. It’s salt free so it won’t burn plants or lawns, even in the hottest of temperatures and driest conditions.
HOW DO I APPLY MILORGANITE?
For lawns:
- Mow your lawn and allow clippings to remain on the lawn. Grass clippings recycle the nutrients back into the soil.
- Spread the Milorganite on your lawn using a lawn spreader. Consult the back of the bag for spreader settings.
- In case of spillage, rake or sweep up the fertilizer and spread it over the lawn.
- Avoid direct applications to steep slopes, in areas that flood, wetlands, or into surface water.
- Wash hands after use.
For trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, roses, and vegetables:
- Fertilize your established or newly transplanted plants with Milorganite.
- For established plants, spread the fertilizer over the soil surface and work in with a rake.
- When transplanting plants, pour the fertilizer into the hold prior to inserting plants.
- Consult the back of the bag for detailed directions.
